December 3, 2006 Update - Off to Nicaragua!
Hello, Friends. Today is Sunday. We arrived in Los Angeles at 5:30 pm Friday; we leave tonight for Nicaragua (technically Monday morning, but 12:30 am is the night before in my world); . Yesterday, my friend Richard Parks gave us a tour of his neighborhood in South Central and told us some stories of how God has redeemed and worked miracles in people's lives here. The students got a picture of how a few lives can be used by God to transform a place and touch many.

I'll try to send updates from Nicaragua on our ministry there. Before we go, though, I wanted to tell you how faithful God was in providing the money for our team and thank all of you who helped make this possible. Our student auction was a smashing success: we raised $2,175 last Saturday! As of last Friday, the students had a ways to go on their fundraising, but we reached the goal easily before we left on Thursday. Truly, we are awed and humbled. Thank you.

I feel very aware that God has provided for us and that for those who have been given much, much will be required. I hope that we can go love some people, especially some children, in Jesus' name and see what God will do through us. Please pray that the students would have the faith to go beyond their comfort and I would have wisdom to lead this team well, and that God would have His way with each of us.

Also, please pray for Paul, who chose not to join us on the mission.

Finally, remember Kim and our girls in your prayers, since we will be apart for over 5 weeks and Kim will be handling everything there by herself. This whole first session is a learning experience for all of us, and the mission trip is the epitome of learning as we go.

Okay, that's it. Shorter than usual. I hope you don't feel ripped off. I could wax eloquent about how it feels to be back in LA where we lived 10 for years (nostalgic) or how aware I am of all the mistakes I made this session (excruciatingly) or how simultaneously excited and sad I am to be leaving for our mission but away from my family for so long and miss the holidays with them (conflicted). But I won't. God is good. I dont' always understand it, but I believe it.

God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and fill you with joy and grant you His peace.

Mike
